These are trying times for the Stamford Library System, with its budget cut down like trees in a Rain Forest. As an OnTheCheap reporter, I have a special fondness for our libraries, which not only serve as repositories for books but also as social halls, cinemas, salons (as in readers’s discussion groups), research utopias, and all-around free resource for our community. This is the last place to cut funding – especially when people who are down on their luck need it most. I’m hoping for an 11th hour rescue to restore hours to daily instead of one or two days of operation a week. In the meantime, Friends of Ferguson (yay F of F!) continue to offer great programming. Come to the Main Library to learn about Microsoft Word, Exel, the Internet and other computer tools.
