The Ferguson Library, in partnership with the Stamford Art Association , presents a juried multimedia wall art show entitled “Abstractions” at the Library’s Auditorium Gallery beginning Thursday, May 17. There will be a wine and cheese reception to launch the show from 6 – 8 p.m. Ribbons for the winning pieces will be awarded at the opening.

This exhibit is part of the ongoing ‘Art at the Ferguson’ series, curated in cooperation with the Stamford Art Association. The show will run through September, and is free and accessible during normal library hours. Keri Gallagher is 10 yrs old and lives in Stamford. She has been selected to represent the USA on the New England Cardinals Team in Gothenburg Sweden, at the Gothia World Cup.

She will be the youngest player at the Gothia World Cup! All others are 11 and up and she will celebrate her 11th birthday in Sweden on July 15th. She is trying to raise money for her airfare – and her parents can not afford at this time to go with her, so she will have to go alone. Tough for a 10 year old.. There will be over 1600 teams participating from 70-80 countries.

Kaleidoscope Boutique will donate 10% of sales from May 1 to July 1 if the customer mentions that he/she is supporting Keri - and will also host additional fundraising events to help her raise money for her travels.

Hear the critically-acclaimed and PEN Open Book Award winner Meena Alexander as she recites her poetry and discusses her career as a writer on Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at The Ferguson Library’s Third Floor Auditorium, Bedford & Broad Streets, Stamford.

Alexander is a Distinguished Professor of English at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center. Born in Allahabad, India and raised in the Sudan, Dr. Alexander is the author of many books including Illiterate Heart, which won the PEN Open Book Award for poetry, and Fault Lines, a critically acclaimed memoir. She has been honored by the South Asian Literary Association for contributions to American literature and has also been a visiting writer and educator at the Sorbonne, the National University of Singapore, and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study.
