A “tasting” at Fairway Market is like a Bar Mitzvah smorgasbord; heaps of delectable food, drink and merriment. All free.

You can sample brisket, potato latkes, roasted potatoes, noodle kugel, blinzes, beef wellington, honey glazed ham, brie, stuffed mushrooms and the like; and in doing so, you just might feel compelled to order from the catering department (not required).

If this tasting is anything like the Thanksgiving “tasting” that could have passed as a holiday party, you are in for a treat. Or many treats.

Stamford On The Cheap occasionally receives Press Releases from left field – and this one sounds interesting enough to pass along to my readers. Though the content of this film can be construed as controversial, and I can’t vouch for its production quality, I’m letting you know about it. If the subject matter appeals to you, you can make your own decision!

Here’s the Release:

After 2 years of development, 3 years of filming and a year of post-production we are pleased to announce that our feature film Charlie Christ: The Gospel According to Fools is finally wrapping up.

In anticipation of completion we cordially invite you to join us on November 19th at the University of Connecticut for a special event focused on the past, present and future of this film project. We will be featuring the latest trailer and showing exclusive footage that won’t be available anywhere else.

This is a film that has been filmed in 11 cities on 4 continents throughout the world. It has received high praise from major industry professionals. It has very challenging, unique and original artistic approaches to feminism, interfaith relations, politics and LGBTQ issues. It has all this going for it. And yes, it’s a comedy!

We’ll also be discussing our plans for online distribution for the film with focus on open video standards (including WebM adoption and more), creative commons, participatory remix culture and more.

On Saturday, November 5, 2011, Fairway Stamford and public television host and renowned chef Lidia Bastianich will celebrate food and community in an event to support WNET New York Public Media, the parent company of THIRTEEN and WLIW21, New York’s public Television stations and operator of NJTV. For nearly 50 years, WNET has been producing and broadcasting national and local documentaries and other commercial-free programs for the tri-state community.

Lidia will kick-off the festivities at 11 a.m. with the signing of her series companion cookbook, Lidia’s Italy in America (Knopf) and her popular children’s book, Nonna Tell Me a Story: Lidia’s Christmas Kitchen (Running Press Kids). Filled with adventures and irresistible recipes, both books are journeys into the heart of authentic Italian cooking. As with all her projects, she has held true to her Italian roots and culture, which she proudly and warmly invites all to experience in-person at Fairway. Wine tasting will follow the book signing at the adjacent store, Fairway Wines & Spirits.
