Celebrate the Chinese New Year at The Ferguson Library Sunday, January 8 from 1:30 – 4 p.m. The program is geared for the whole family.

Ring in the Year of Dragon with dancing, tai chi, storytelling and craft workshops. Co-sponsored by the Chinese Language School of Fairfield County and the Chinese Language School of Connecticut, and generously supported by the Friends of The Ferguson Library.

Celebrate the Ferguson Library and the best in children’s literature at The Library’s Children’s Holiday Book Festival Sunday, December 4 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Main Library. A dozen renowned children’s authors and illustrators will be on hand to sign books, and there will be fun activities for the whole family all afternoon. Book sale proceeds support the Ferguson’s children’s programs.

Other municipalities are content with a mere tree lighting ceremony and perhaps a quick visit from Old St. Nick to welcome the Holiday Season. But Stamford’s Santa goes the extra mile – or should I say 22 stories – as he rappels down Landmark Square in conjunction with the city’s Tree lighting ceremony on Sunday December 4th @ 5pm for the Heights and Lights extravaganza with guest rappellers Brian Cashman, Yankees GM, Bill Evans, ABC News and Rick Reichmuth, Fox News. A fireworks display and the Activities for Kids Chorus round out what’s sure to be a great, unusual evening. This is a wonderful tradition, and of course, FREE!

Enjoy a day of free food samples and entertainment at Fairway Stamford featuring book signing and wine tasting with a celebrity chef.

On Saturday, November 5, 2011, Fairway Stamford and public television host and renowned chef Lidia Bastianich will celebrate food and community in an event to support WNET New York Public Media, the parent company of THIRTEEN and WLIW21, New York’s public Television stations and operator of NJTV. For nearly 50 years, WNET has been producing and broadcasting national and local documentaries and other commercial-free programs for the tri-state community.

Lidia will kick-off the festivities at 11 a.m. with the signing of her series companion cookbook, Lidia’s Italy in America (Knopf) and her popular children’s book, Nonna Tell Me a Story: Lidia’s Christmas Kitchen (Running Press Kids). Filled with adventures and irresistible recipes, both books are journeys into the heart of authentic Italian cooking. As with all her projects, she has held true to her Italian roots and culture, which she proudly and warmly invites all to experience in-person at Fairway. Wine tasting will follow the book signing at the adjacent store, Fairway Wines & Spirits.

You can also bring your children for arts and crafts starting at 10 am thru noon. Dr. Colker will talk about what kids should be eating, the importance of variety, and how to easily fit a range of foods into meals, as well as what choices are nutritional superstars, including how to read ingredient labels. Sure, it’s a PR stunt. Granted, its a way to bring folks to the Fairway Section of town. But it’s also a great way to discover another Stamford neighborhood; throw up a new mixed use complex (in this case, retail, office and residential), invite the public, and voila; familiarization.

The new Harbor Point will host a free event on Wednesday August 24.

8PM – Movie in the Park – “College Road Trip.”
